I believe strongly in ‘everything in moderation’- sugar is on the top of my moderation list. Sugar substitutes are a BIG NO for me- they give me massive headaches, sometimes within minutes of digestion. How did I figure that out? What did I do about it? And what are some other side effects should you be aware of?
READ BELOW!
Side note: Did you know they can also be more addictive than the real stuff?!
As someone who grew up in an Italian household, my mamma made almost everything from scratch. It wasn’t until I went to college and tried to “eat healthy” on my own that I experimented with sugar substitutes. This was also the first time in my life that I ever got a migraine.
Sadly, I did not figure out that sugar substitutes were the cause of my migraines. It took quite some time before I was able to figure that out. And currently, no clinical evidence exists to show the relationship between the exact mechanism and causal relationship between sugar su...

Our bodies can do amazing things.
Standing tall starts with strong bones.
Strong bones in proper alignment equals a strong body.
October is National Spinal Health Month.
Learn about your Spine. Protect it. Be Jōbu.
There are thirty-three bones in the human vertebral column. The lower 9 are fused in Adults forming sacrum and coccyx.
Over one fourth of the spine’s total length is created from cartilage, a sponge-y substance that separates one vertebral disc from the next. Practice proper posture to stand tall- keep your healthy height- and protect your whole body!
Back Pain is among the most common reason for a physician visit – approximately 80% of Americans will suffer from this condition at some point during their lives. Poor posture can help ease back pain and increase productivity in the work place. Follow these tips for a Strong Spine.
Over 120 muscles are contained in the spine, and the spinal column includes approximately 220 individual ...

My new DIRTY word.
Why do I think ergonomic is such a *dirty* word?
Because it is telling us: don’t worry about yourself, let something external take care of your body.
So let me say this: I don’t care if you spend a million dollars on an ergonomic chair that has it all. If you don’t know how your body works, the chair is working against you.
And, guess what?! You will end up spending more of your hard-earned money on other “external solutions”. When the real answer actually does come from within.
That is why, JōbuFIT’s number ONE goal is to protect your body through proper posture and functional fitness.

We spend a ridiculous amount of time seated: from driving cars to and from work, to actually sitting at work, to eating dinner at home with family or even out with friends, finishing up the evening TV or computer time before we go to bed. Then we do all that sitting again the next day.
So, why not do something healthy with these ever-SITTING bodies?
That is where I come in.
Below you will find some of my simple suggestions to relieve the stress on your ever-sitting body.
The best part: no need to set aside time or change your current routine to give your body the break and boost it needs.
Here are a few of my seated stretching suggestions broken up into two segments: upper and lower body.
Do them all at once or spread them throughout the day; the choice is yours.
Arms and upper body:
THE REACH
Start with both feet flat on the ground. Right hand will hold on to the chair next to your right hip. Left arm will reach up to the lights and over...

Whether you are touring a new city, hustling to make it to work on time or just strutting your stuff, how you carry your bag matters.
This couple does a great job of carrying their belongings above their hips. This keeps excess stress off of their lower spine, and can even make your belongings feel lighter.
As an added bonus: keeping your bag at your midline (front or back) will help you walk on both legs evenly. This promotes good walking posture and reducing the possibility of hip and leg pain.

Our technology gets smaller, faster, and increasingly more essential every day. The tech that was once only used in the workplace is now in every aspect of our lives. From the first thing we do in the morning to the last thing we look at before we close our eyes.
Technology enables us to accomplish tasks and stay up to date on current events in a fraction of the time it took 10 years ago. Our technology helps us feel closer to loved ones who may not live in the same time zone. And, our little social devices provide entertainment wherever our busy lives may take us.
So, how could something so beneficial be a negative? I would like to challenge you to not think about WHAT we are interacting with, but instead look at HOW as the negative tech effects. And, what if you had the ability to keep away the negatives of technology before they began? (And I am not asking you to unplug or even use your tech less.) Would you make the effort to protect before the neg...

Sitting is not the only thing you do all day- I hope. But sitting is the only position we have talked about so far on the Jōbu-Blog. With the introduction of standing desks into offices, we are finding a different kind of back, hip and neck pain. So now we MUST talk about how you can protect your body by standing strong too! Don’t worry these are simple adjustments, that can be completed in a few seconds, but will help you achieve that sustainable high productivity everyone wants.
***
To begin standing strong: you must always feel your tallest- so stand up, up, UP!
By that I mean: pretend someone is above you pulling one strand of hair from the crown of your head up to the ceiling.
***
Now, in true Jōbu -Style we are going to work from the ground up:
STEP 1: Take a look at your feet: all ten toes should be pointing forward.
I call this position the “Michael Jackson Lean”. This minor shift to your posture will help keep pressure off of your back an

We are all always on the go! From commuting to carpooling to traveling for work or pleasure.
Our lives don’t ever s t o p. Here is the rundown from my Good Morning Washington segment- everything you will need to help carry and wear the things you use most.
Check your posture every time you check your phone:
You need to understand what your neck is putting up with! Think of your skull as a watermelon and your spine as a toothpick. There is only 1 toothpick holding up that HUGE watermelon. Give your spine a fighting chance and hold the phone up to eye level don’t drop down to where your phone is resting.
The wonderful thing about technology is it is becoming more and more portable- and by portable I mean smaller. But that doesn’t mean that you have to shrink with it. Check your body every time you reach for something that has a battery and ask yourself: is it reacting to me? Or am I reacting to it? (read more on that here.)
Your Side Bag Ba...
