ANATOMY MONDAY: URINARY TRACT

23 April by Alessa Caridi

OH! OUR AMAZING BODIES! THEY DO SO MUCH.
WE DIGEST AND PROCESS FOOD THROUGH DIFFERENT ORGANS.
LEARN ABOUT YOUR BODY.
PROTECT IT.
CHOOSE YOUR FOOD WISELY.
YOU ONLY GET ONE BODY. THERE ARE NO TRADE-INS.

Kidney’s Function

The kidneys are best known for creating and clearing urine from our bodies. But did you know that they are also largely responsible for clearing the toxins in your body that the liver cannot, and serve an important role in maintaining your blood pressure. So remember to also thank your kidneys after next weekend’s outings.

Kidney’s Location

Your kidneys are located in the middle of your back. The left one is slightly higher than the right one and is completely protected by your lower ribs while only half of your right kidney is covered by the ribs.

Two Ureters

You have two ureters that carry urine from your kidneys to your bladder. Ever heard of Kidney Stones?! The pain that people experience from Kidney Stones is because a solid, crystallized mass is stuck in a ureter.

The Bladder

The kidneys make urine, but your bladder collects it- sexy, we know. As your bladder fills, it physically stretches, sending a signal to your brain to let it know that the time has come to empty. Listen to your body- go potty!
